MATT RATCLIFFE
Matt Ratcliffe is a dynamic and dedicated chef with a lifelong passion for food, creativity, and innovation. Born and raised in Atlanta, Matt’s journey into the culinary world began in his childhood summers spent on his grandparents’ farm. There, he developed a deep appreciation for the hard work and dedication that goes into cultivating fresh, high-quality ingredients—a lesson that would shape his philosophy on food for years to come.
Early in his career, Matt explored a range of roles in the food industry, starting in fast food and transitioning to fine dining. His passion for culinary innovation and excellence truly ignited at 5 Seasons Brewery in Sandy Springs, where he began experimenting with techniques and flavors. Seeking to refine his skills and expand his horizons, Matt worked under Chef Chiba at Silk in Midtown, mastering the intricate techniques of kaiseki cuisine and gaining a profound respect for ingredients and their origins.
Matt’s drive to learn brought him to BLT Steak, where he honed his expertise in French culinary techniques under the guidance of Laurent Tourondel. His time at BLT spanned eight years, including a pivotal period in South Beach, Miami. He also worked with James Beard-nominated chef Clay Conley at Buccan, embracing new challenges and adding to his repertoire of skills.
Returning to Atlanta, Matt joined Chef Kevin Rathbun’s signature steakhouse, where he continued to push culinary boundaries until the pandemic brought unforeseen changes. Shortly thereafter, Matt embraced a new opportunity with the Scotts, stepping into the role of Culinary Director for McCray’s Tavern and their newest concept, H&H.
At H&H, Matt’s vision is to offer a unique dining experience by focusing on seasonal, small-plate dishes crafted with peak ingredients. His commitment to innovation ensures a dynamic menu that evolves with the seasons, offering both staff and guests a fresh perspective on culinary exploration.
Outside of the kitchen, Matt treasures time spent with his family, often hiking with his daughter, foraging mushrooms, and enjoying the outdoors through fishing and grilling. His favorite ingredients include foie gras, otoro, and sweetbreads, which reflect his refined palate and dedication to creating exceptional dishes.
Matt Ratcliffe’s journey has been marked by relentless curiosity, respect for craftsmanship, and a desire to continually evolve. His dedication to creating unforgettable culinary experiences sets him apart as a true leader in the culinary world.
